Overview

The Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) polysaccharide–tetanus protein conjugate is a vaccine antigen used to prevent invasive diseases caused by the bacterium *Haemophilus influenzae* type b, such as meningitis, epiglottitis, and sepsis. The vaccine is composed of the capsular polysaccharide from Hib (specifically polyribosyl-ribitol-phosphate, PRP) covalently linked to tetanus toxoid as a carrier protein. The conjugate vaccine induces a strong IgG response via T-dependent pathway enabling infants and young children to mount a robust immune response. Vaccination induces high levels of anti-PRP IgG antibodies with demonstrated bactericidal activity against Hib.
