Target intelligence / Profile preview

Haemophilus influenzae type b Polysaccharide Capsule Antigen

Molecular classification
Polysaccharide, Capsular Antigen
01

Overview

The Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) polysaccharide capsule antigen is a surface-expressed polymer of polyribosyl-ribitol-phosphate (PRP). It is the principal virulence factor enabling the bacterium to evade host immune responses. It is the target of Hib conjugate vaccines, which induce protective immunity by eliciting T-cell dependent responses.
