Haemophilus influenzae type b Polysaccharide Capsule Conjugated to Tetanus Toxoid Protein Carrier (PRP-T)

Target
PRP-T
Molecular classification
Vaccine, Conjugate Vaccine, Polysaccharide-Protein Conjugate
01

Overview

The PRP-T vaccine is a conjugate vaccine designed to prevent invasive disease caused by Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib). The vaccine consists of the capsular polysaccharide from Hib (PRP) covalently linked to tetanus toxoid protein carrier. This conjugation converts the immune response from T-cell independent to T-cell dependent, enhancing immunogenicity in infants and young children.

Mechanism of action

Stimulates a T-cell dependent immune response against Hib by conjugating the PRP antigen to tetanus toxoid, leading to production of anti-capsular antibodies that neutralize or opsonize Hib bacteria.
