Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) polysaccharide conjugate protein is the active component in Hib conjugate vaccines, which are designed to protect against invasive diseases caused by the bacterium Haemophilus influenzae type b. The vaccine is made by chemically linking (conjugating) a portion of the Hib bacterium’s capsular polysaccharide—specifically, polyribosyl-ribitol-phosphate (PRP)—to a carrier protein such as tetanus toxoid or diphtheria toxoid. This conjugation transforms the otherwise poorly immunogenic polysaccharide into an antigen capable of eliciting a strong and long-lasting immune response, especially in infants and young children who do not respond well to plain polysaccharides.
Induces robust humoral immunity via T-dependent pathway; stimulates both B-cell and T-cell responses, leading to germinal center formation, antibody class switching, affinity maturation, and memory B cell production.
