Target intelligence / Profile preview

Haemophilus influenzae type b Polysaccharide Conjugated to Tetanus Protein Carrier (Hib PRP-TT)

Target
Hib PRP-TT
Molecular classification
Polysaccharide-protein conjugate, Vaccine antigen
01

Overview

Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) polysaccharide conjugated to tetanus protein carrier is the active component in Hib conjugate vaccines. The vaccine induces an immune response by presenting the bacterial polysaccharide in a form that can be recognized efficiently by the immune system. Conjugation with tetanus toxoid converts the normally T-cell independent PRP antigen into a T-cell dependent form, enabling robust antibody production even in infants and young children who would otherwise respond poorly to plain polysaccharides. Protective immunity correlates with anti-PRP antibody concentrations.
