Overview

Polyribosylribitol phosphate (PRP) is an essential capsular polysaccharide from Haemophilus influenzae type b. It forms linear chains with alternating ribose and ribitol-phosphate residues. As both a critical virulence factor enabling bacterial survival within hosts and an effective vaccine target when protein-conjugated, it has been central to preventing childhood invasive Hib disease worldwide through vaccination programs.
