The Hantaan virus surface spike consists of tightly associated heterodimers formed by two envelope glycoproteins—Gn and Gc—which together orchestrate host cell recognition via receptor binding (primarily through β3 integrin family members among others), facilitate endocytosis-mediated uptake, then trigger pH-dependent membrane fusion via structural rearrangements primarily within the class II fusogen domain present in Gc.
