Overview

HAO2 intronic transcript 1 (non-protein coding) (HAO2-IT1) is a long non-coding RNA located within an intron of the HAO2 gene. It does not encode a protein or micropeptide (confirmed by negative CNIT score), and is primarily found in the cytoplasm. HAO2-IT1 has been identified as differentially expressed in osteosarcoma tissue—specifically, it is downregulated compared to normal bone—but there are no published functional studies characterizing its biological effects or involvement in other diseases. Its cellular interactions are largely unknown, though one study reports possible RNA-RNA interaction with MT-RNR2 (mitochondrial 16S ribosomal RNA). There is currently a lack of evidence to support its role as a therapeutic target, biomarker, or drug interaction partner. Further research is required to clarify its biological and disease relevance.
