Hardness

The term 'Hardness' does not refer to a specific biological molecule, receptor, enzyme, or therapeutic target. Instead, it typically describes a physical property of matter, such as the resistance of a solid material to permanent shape change when a force is applied, or the concentration of dissolved minerals (primarily calcium and magnesium) in water (USGS, 2023). In a pharmaceutical context, hardness may refer to the mechanical strength and integrity of a tablet, which is a critical quality attribute during manufacturing to ensure the dosage form can withstand handling (USP, 2024). Because it is a physical characteristic rather than a discrete biological entity or protein, it cannot be targeted by drugs in the traditional sense of molecular pharmacology. Therefore, it is classified as an incorrect or non-biological target for the purposes of therapeutic drug development.
