Overview

HAUS augmin-like complex subunit 1 (HAUS1) is one of the eight subunits comprising the human augmin (HAUS) complex, a cytoplasmic, microtubule-associated protein assembly critical for microtubule nucleation and the proper formation of the mitotic spindle during cell division[1][2][3][4][5]. HAUS1 facilitates the recruitment of the γ-tubulin ring complex (γ-TuRC) to existing spindle microtubules, enabling the formation of branched, high-density microtubule networks required for accurate chromosomal segregation[3][5]. Its functions extend beyond mitosis, participating in maintaining microtubule organization in differentiated, non-dividing cells such as neurons, and playing possible roles in tissue remodeling and development (e.g., heart, muscle)[1]. HAUS1 has been implicated in oncogenic fusion events, such as NPM1-HAUS1 translocations in acute myeloid leukemia, and altered expression in other disease contexts[1]. While HAUS1 is essential for cellular homeostasis, it is not currently a therapeutic target or receptor, and there are no known drug interactions or established mechanisms of pharmacological targeting.
