HAUS augmin-like complex subunit 4 (HAUS4) is a protein subunit of the human augmin complex, also known as the homologous to augmin subunits (HAUS) complex, which is composed of eight subunits (HAUS1 through HAUS8). HAUS4 localizes to spindle microtubules and is essential for proper mitotic spindle assembly, centrosome integrity, microtubule nucleation, and completion of cytokinesis during cell division. The augmin complex functions by recruiting the γ-tubulin ring complex (γ-TuRC) to pre-existing spindle microtubules, enabling microtubule branching and increased spindle density, which is crucial for accurate chromosome segregation and cell division. Disruption of HAUS4 or augmin complex function can result in chromosome misalignment, multipolar spindles, cytokinesis failure, and, in some systems, apoptosis or developmental defects. There are currently no drugs, biomarkers, or direct therapeutic interventions associated with HAUS4, and it is classified as a structural mitotic protein rather than a receptor, enzyme, or classical therapeutic target.
