HCN4 antisense RNA 1 (HCN4-AS1)

Target
HCN4-AS1
Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA)
01

Overview

HCN4 antisense RNA 1 (HCN4-AS1) is classified as a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) that is transcribed antisense to the HCN4 gene. While antisense RNAs, especially lncRNAs, are widely recognized as regulators of gene expression at the levels of transcription, RNA processing, and translation, there is currently no published evidence that HCN4-AS1 itself acts as a bona fide therapeutic target, nor that it is involved in disease mechanisms, or modulated by specific drugs[6]. This makes it biologically distinct from the protein-coding HCN4 gene, which encodes a functional ion channel involved in cardiac pacemaker activity[1][2][5][8]. More research is needed to describe the specific roles, interactions, or clinical relevance of HCN4-AS1.
