HDAC11 antisense RNA 1 (HDAC11-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) that is transcribed antisense to the HDAC11 gene. It does not encode a protein but regulates gene expression at the RNA level. HDAC11-AS1 negatively regulates the expression of the HDAC11 gene, an enzyme responsible for histone deacetylation. Experimental data demonstrate that HDAC11-AS1 ameliorates blood lipid levels and exerts a protective effect against atherosclerosis in animal models, primarily by enhancing LPL expression through the adropin pathway. This positions HDAC11-AS1 as a regulatory molecule relevant for cardiovascular pathology, particularly as a potential biomolecular target for therapeutic modulation of atherosclerosis, although it is not itself a therapeutic target in the traditional sense (i.e., not an enzyme, receptor, transporter, etc.)[3][6][7].
