Overview

The heat-labile enterotoxin B subunit (LTB) is a component of the heat-labile enterotoxin (LT) produced by Escherichia coli (ETEC). LTB is a pentamer that binds to GM1 gangliosides on host cell membranes, facilitating the entry of the toxic LT-A subunit into cells. While non-toxic on its own, LTB plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of ETEC-related diarrheal disease. It also exhibits immunomodulatory properties.
