Target intelligence / Profile preview

Heat-labile enterotoxin subunit B (LT-B)

Target
LT-B
Molecular classification
Toxin subunit, Bacterial virulence factor
01

Overview

Heat-labile enterotoxin subunit B (LT-B) is a non-toxic component of the heat-labile enterotoxin (LT) produced by enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC). It is responsible for binding to ganglioside GM1 receptors on host cell membranes, facilitating entry of the toxic A subunit into target cells. LT-B is highly immunogenic and used in vaccine development as an antigen and mucosal adjuvant.
