Heat shock protein 65 (HSP65) is a highly conserved molecular chaperone predominantly found in prokaryotes, where it supports ATP-dependent folding and assembly of newly synthesized polypeptides and plays an essential role in maintaining cellular protein homeostasis under stress. In mycobacteria (Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Mycobacterium bovis BCG), HSP65 is an immunodominant antigen and serves as the main antigen in immune response to infection.
