Overview

Heat shock protein 65 (HSP65) is a highly conserved molecular chaperone predominantly found in prokaryotes, where it supports ATP-dependent folding and assembly of newly synthesized polypeptides and plays an essential role in maintaining cellular protein homeostasis under stress. In mycobacteria (Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Mycobacterium bovis BCG), HSP65 is an immunodominant antigen and serves as the main antigen in immune response to infection. Due to sequence homology with eukaryotic HSP60 proteins, HSP65 is also implicated in molecular mimicry and autoimmune diseases. It's commonly exploited in diagnostic assays, vaccine research, and as a biomarker for infection and autoimmunity[3][4][1].\n\nThis entry is specific for the bacterial heat shock protein HSP65, as commonly referenced in immunology, infection, and autoimmune disease research.
