However, the pseudogene itself does not encode a functional protein, has no enzyme activity, and is not a therapeutic target. Pseudogenes may arise by duplication or mutation of protein-coding genes, but typically lack transcriptional or translational activity and do not participate in canonical biological or disease processes. There is a risk of confusing this pseudogene with the protein-coding HSP90AB1 gene, which is of therapeutic interest in cancer and other diseases[1][2][3].
