Target intelligence / Profile preview
Heat shock protein family A (Hsp70) member 8 pseudogene 16 (HSPA8P16) is officially classified as a pseudogene in the human genome[3][5][6]. Pseudogenes are DNA sequences similar to known genes but are generally regarded as nonfunctional, either because they do not encode proteins or their transcripts do not result in functional proteins[4]. There is no evidence in the cited references that HSPA8P16 produces a functional product or plays any therapeutic, diagnostic, or biomarker role in disease. It is not considered a receptor, drug target, enzyme, transporter, or involved in any canonical signaling or regulatory pathways[3][6]. Its nomenclature follows the standard for pseudogenes derived from the parent gene (HSPA8, a member of the HSP70 chaperone family), but HSPA8P16 itself is not functionally equivalent to HSPA8[8]. No known aliases beyond standardized gene symbols are noted. No interacting drugs, disease roles, or safety concerns have been described for this locus. The functional version, HSPA8, encodes a constitutively expressed molecular chaperone (Hsc70) involved in proteostasis and cellular stress responses, and has known roles in disease and drug interactions[8]. HSPA8P16 is a noncoding pseudogene related to HSPA8, but lacks functional relevance and is not subject to the same therapeutic or research focus as HSPA8.
