Overview

Heat shock protein family A member 12B (HSPA12B) is a protein encoded by the HSPA12B gene in humans and belongs to the heat shock protein 70 (Hsp70) family, but it contains an atypical ATPase domain and is considered a distant member of the Hsp70 subgroup. HSPA12B is involved in cellular responses to stress, including heat shock, and plays a protective role in maintaining endothelial barrier function during injury or sepsis. Alternative splicing was observed, generating multiple isoforms. Genetic studies suggest that HSPA12B is associated with susceptibility to atherosclerosis and attenuates cardiac dysfunction and remodeling after myocardial infarction, making it a potential therapeutic target for cardiovascular disease. In the context of cancer, particularly breast cancer, it exhibits characteristic patterns of DNA copy number variation (CNV), which may act as risk predictors and help guide personalized treatment strategies. Members of the Hsp70 family, including HSPA12B, act as molecular chaperones, ensuring proper folding and stability of cellular proteins and regulating cellular homeostasis under stress conditions.
