Heat shock protein family B member 9 (HSPB9) is a member of the small heat shock protein (sHSP/HSP20) family[4][1]. It is characterized by a conserved alpha-crystallin domain, essential for its ATP-independent chaperone activity, preventing protein aggregation and maintaining proteostasis during cellular stress[3][1][4]. HSPB9 is predominantly expressed in the testis and is considered a cancer/testis antigen (CT51), signifying occasional expression in certain cancers and utility in cancer immunology studies[2][6]. Unlike some other HSPBs, HSPB9's expression and function remain less characterized, with limited evidence linking it to major human diseases or therapeutic applications[5].
