Heat shock protein family D member 1 pseudogene 10 (HSPD1P10) is classified as a pseudogene, which means it represents a non-functional genomic DNA sequence similar to its parent gene, heat shock protein family D member 1 (HSPD1). HSPD1 is a protein-coding gene encoding the mitochondrial chaperonin Hsp60, essential for the proper folding and assembly of newly imported proteins in mitochondria, as well as for responses to cellular stress. Pseudogenes such as HSPD1P10 do not produce functional proteins and are generally not considered molecular targets for therapy or drug development. Whereas the parent gene HSPD1 participates in key mitochondrial functions and is implicated in certain heritable diseases, there is no evidence that HSPD1P10 has a direct biological, pathological, or pharmacological role[3].
