Overview

Heat shock protein family D member 1 pseudogene 15 (HSPD1P15, also known as HSPD1-15P) is a human pseudogene located in the genome but does not encode a functional protein[2][4]. It is a non-functional duplicate (or processed copy) related to the HSPD1 gene, which encodes the mitochondrial chaperonin Hsp60, involved in protein folding and mitochondrial function in the cell[7]. As a pseudogene, HSPD1P15 lacks functional coding potential and is not considered a therapeutic target. Pseudogenes such as HSPD1P15 may sometimes act in gene regulation through noncoding RNA-derived transcripts, but there is no specific evidence of such function for this gene. No disease associations, biomarkers, or drug interactions are currently linked to HSPD1P15[2][4][6].

Biological functions

No direct biological function as a protein (due to being a pseudogene)Pseudogenes can potentially regulate their parent gene or related targets via non-coding RNA mechanisms, such as serving as sources for small interfering RNAs or as miRNA decoys, but such functions have not specifically been described for HSPD1P15
04

Disease associations

None knownWhile pseudogenes can occasionally act in regulation relevant to disease in general (such as modulation of parental gene expression or miRNA regulation), there is no evidence that HSPD1P15 is directly implicated in any disease process
