Overview

HSPE1P9 is a pseudogene of the heat shock protein family E (Hsp10), member 1 gene (HSPE1). Unlike canonical heat shock proteins (such as Hsp10 or Hsp60), which act as mitochondrial chaperonins involved in protein folding, HSPE1P9 does not produce a functional protein product[5]. Pseudogenes can sometimes play roles in gene regulation (e.g., as sources of regulatory RNAs), but there is currently no evidence that HSPE1P9 plays such a function[4][5]. Furthermore, it is not implicated as a therapeutic target, nor are there drugs or disease associations described for this pseudogene[5].
