Target intelligence / Profile preview
Heat shock proteins (HSPs) are a family of molecular chaperones that are rapidly induced in response to cellular stresses. They assist in protein folding, prevent aggregation, and facilitate protein degradation. HSP expression is regulated by heat shock transcription factors (HSFs) which bind to heat shock elements (HSEs) on DNA, upregulating gene transcription. Malfunction or dysregulation of heat shock protein induction is implicated in numerous diseases and they serve as potential therapeutic targets.
Pharmacological induction or inhibition of HSP expression, targeting specific HSP families like Hsp70 or Hsp90.
