Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is a gram-negative, microaerophilic bacterium that colonizes the human stomach. Its unique adaptations allow it to survive in the acidic environment, making it a significant pathogen. It is associated with gastritis, peptic ulcers, and gastric cancer. Treatment typically involves antibiotics and proton pump inhibitors. Eradication is becoming more difficult with increasing antibiotic resistance.
