The Helicobacter pylori adhesin-lipid interaction is a fundamental mechanism by which the bacterium colonizes the human gastric mucosa (PubMed: 11910113). Current research explores the use of carbohydrate mimetics, bismuth compounds, and specific fatty acids like linolenic acid to block these binding sites, offering a potential alternative or adjunct to traditional antibiotic regimens that face increasing resistance (PubMed: 12488542).
