Urease subunit B (UreB) is a structural component of the urease enzyme complex in Helicobacter pylori. UreB is essential for the enzymatic activity of urease, which hydrolyzes urea to produce ammonia and carbon dioxide, neutralizing gastric acid. It also binds directly to CD74 on gastric epithelial cells, triggering inflammation. Due to its immunogenicity and essential role, it is a vaccine target.
Inhibition of UreB function to disrupt urea hydrolysis and/or blocking UreB interaction with CD74 to reduce inflammation.
