Target intelligence / Profile preview
Helper T cell type 1 (Th1) cells are a specialized subset of CD4+ T helper cells that play a central role in the adaptive immune response, particularly in defending against intracellular pathogens. Th1 cells orchestrate cell-mediated immunity by activating macrophages, cytotoxic CD8+ T cells, and natural killer (NK) cells through the secretion of specific cytokines such as IFN-gamma, IL-2 and TNF-alpha. While crucial for pathogen clearance, dysregulation can lead to autoimmune diseases and tissue-damaging hypersensitivity reactions.
