Overview
Helper T cell type 2 (Th2) is a specialized subset of CD4+ T helper cells that orchestrates the humoral, or antibody-mediated, immune response. Th2 cells are essential for defending against extracellular parasites such as helminths and play a central role in allergic reactions and certain autoimmune diseases. They are characterized by the production of cytokines IL-4, IL-5, IL-6, IL-9, IL-10 and IL-13.
