Hemagglutinin (HA) is a major surface glycoprotein and antigen of the Influenza A virus, specifically the H3N2 subtype. It mediates viral attachment to host cells via sialic acid binding and facilitates membrane fusion for viral entry. HA is a homotrimeric protein composed of HA1 and HA2 subunits, and undergoes continuous antigenic drift, making it a primary target for neutralizing antibodies and a key component of seasonal influenza vaccines. Recombinant forms are used in serological assays and vaccine development, updated annually to reflect circulating strains.
