The hemagglutinin (HA) protein is a major surface glycoprotein of the Influenza B virus (Victoria lineage). It mediates viral entry into host cells by binding to sialic acid-containing receptors and is the primary target of neutralizing antibodies. Antigenic drift in HA necessitates continuous vaccine updates to match circulating strains. HA is a homotrimer, consisting of HA1 (receptor binding) and HA2 (fusion) subunits. The Victoria lineage is antigenically distinct from the Yamagata lineage.
