Hemagglutinin of Influenza B virus (Victoria lineage)

Molecular classification
Viral protein, Glycoprotein, Hemagglutinin
01

Overview

Hemagglutinin (HA) is a major surface glycoprotein of the influenza B virus (Victoria lineage) and plays a critical role in viral entry into host cells. It is also the primary target for neutralizing antibodies, making it central to immune recognition and vaccine design. The Victoria lineage is antigenically distinct from the Yamagata lineage, necessitating the inclusion of both in seasonal influenza vaccines. HA mediates viral attachment to sialic acid receptors on host cells and subsequent fusion of the viral and host cell membranes.
