Hemagglutinin protein (H7 subtype) (HA (H7))

Target
HA (H7)
Molecular classification
Viral surface glycoprotein, Hemagglutinin, Receptor
01

Overview

Hemagglutinin (HA) is a surface glycoprotein of the influenza A virus, functioning as both the receptor-binding and membrane fusion protein essential for viral entry into host cells. The H7 subtype refers to one of the antigenic variants within the hemagglutinin family, commonly associated with avian influenza strains but also capable of infecting humans. It binds sialic acid-containing receptors on target cell surfaces via its globular head domain, facilitating initial virus attachment. After endocytosis into host cells and exposure to acidic pH within endosomes, conformational changes trigger fusion between viral and cellular membranes allowing genome release into cytoplasm. Hemagglutinin is a principal target for neutralizing antibodies generated during infection or vaccination.
