Overview
Hematopoiesis is the process of blood cell formation, including erythrocytes (red blood cells), leukocytes (white blood cells, including lymphocytes, granulocytes, and monocytes), and thrombocytes (platelets). This process occurs mainly in the bone marrow in adults and is regulated by a complex interplay of stem cell signaling, growth factors (such as erythropoietin and G-CSF), cytokines, and the bone marrow microenvironment[1][5][6]. While many approved drugs and biologicals are used to stimulate or support hematopoiesis in conditions such as anemia, neutropenia, or after chemotherapy, "hematopoiesis support" itself does not refer to a discrete molecular target, but rather a therapeutic goal or intervention area[2][6][7].
