Overview

Hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) are clonogenic progenitor cells capable of self-renewal and multilineage differentiation that reconstitute blood cell populations following transplantation. In HSCT, engraftment describes the process by which donor-derived HSCs home to the recipient's bone marrow niches, proliferate, and restore hematopoiesis. Success depends on the number and quality of transplanted HSCs, supportive marrow microenvironment, and immunological factors[1][3][6]. Engraftment can be accompanied by complications such as graft failure and engraftment syndrome, both reflecting immune dysregulation or insufficient HSC activity[2].
