Hematopoietic progenitor cells (HPCs) are immature, intermediate cells in the process of blood cell development. They arise from hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs), which have the ability to both self-renew and differentiate into various blood cell types. HPCs themselves do not possess unlimited self-renewal capacity but are capable of proliferating and differentiating into specific lineages of mature blood cells. They serve as a critical link between multipotent hematopoietic stem cells and fully differentiated, mature blood cells. Their primary function is to replenish dead or damaged blood cells, supporting tissue repair after injury and maintaining ongoing tissue homeostasis. HPC transplantation is widely used in treating hematological diseases such as leukemia or lymphoma.
