The recipient hematopoietic system refers to all blood-forming tissues and cells—including hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells, mature blood lineages, and supportive bone marrow stroma—of an individual receiving a hematopoietic stem cell transplant. Clinical interventions such as HSCT ablate or replace this system to treat hematologic malignancies, bone marrow failures, and genetic disorders. The recipient system is not a drug target but a physiological entity that is reconstituted or replaced via transplantation, often involving significant safety and therapeutic challenges such as immunosuppression, risk of infection, and transplant complications like GVHD.
