Hemozoin inhibitors are a class of molecules that target the formation of hemozoin, a crystalline byproduct produced by malaria parasites (notably Plasmodium species) during the digestion of host hemoglobin inside red blood cells. The inhibition of hemozoin formation is a validated and essential antimalarial drug target because this process is critical for parasite survival and absent in humans, reducing the risk of off-target effects and resistance development.
