Heparin-binding Epidermal Growth Factor-like Growth Factor (HB-EGF)

Target
HB-EGF
Molecular classification
Growth Factor, EGF Family Member
01

Overview

Heparin-binding EGF-like growth factor (HB-EGF) is a member of the EGF family that exists in both membrane-bound (pro-HB-EGF) and soluble forms. It binds to EGFR/ErbB1 and ErbB4 receptors, stimulating cell proliferation, migration, and survival. It plays roles in wound healing, cardiac development, and organ regeneration. Overexpression is associated with tumor progression and metastasis, making it a potential therapeutic target but also raising safety concerns.
