Hepatic Biliary Transporters (HBTs)

Target
HBTs
Molecular classification
Transporter, Membrane Transport Protein, ABC Transporter, SLC Transporter
01

Overview

Hepatic biliary transporters are membrane proteins located in hepatocytes and cholangiocytes that mediate the uptake and efflux of bile acids, bilirubin, drugs, and other compounds across the liver cell membranes. They are critical for bile formation, drug detoxification, and maintaining liver homeostasis. Dysfunction or inhibition of these transporters can lead to cholestasis and drug-induced liver injury.
