Hepatic very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) secretion refers to the process by which liver cells (hepatocytes) assemble and release VLDL particles into the bloodstream. VLDLs are a class of lipoproteins primarily responsible for transporting endogenous triglycerides, cholesterol, phospholipids, and cholesteryl esters from the liver to peripheral tissues. This process is central to lipid homeostasis and has significant implications for both liver health and cardiovascular risk due to its impact on circulating triglyceride levels. Key proteins involved include Apolipoprotein B100, Microsomal Triglyceride Transfer Protein (MTP), Triacylglycerol Hydrolase (TGH), Cell Death-Inducing DFFA-Like Effector B (CIDEB), Small Leucine-Rich Protein 1 (SMLR1), LAMINA-associated polypeptide 1 (LAP1), LULL1, and TORSINA. Dysregulation of this process is linked with hypertriglyceridemia, cardiovascular disease, and NAFLD/NASH.
