Hepatic very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) synthesis is the process by which the liver assembles and secretes VLDL particles, a critical mechanism for lipid transport and homeostasis in the body. VLDL particles transport endogenous triglycerides, cholesterol, phospholipids, and cholesteryl esters from the liver to peripheral tissues. Dysregulation of hepatic VLDL synthesis/secretion contributes directly to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease/steatosis, hypertriglyceridemia, and atherosclerosis risk.
