The hepatic VLDL-triglyceride synthesis pathway refers to the series of biochemical processes in the liver that result in the assembly and secretion of very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) particles, which are rich in triglycerides. This pathway is central to lipid homeostasis and energy distribution, as it enables the liver to export triglycerides derived from various sources into circulation for use by peripheral tissues. Imbalance between TG synthesis and export can lead to steatosis and progression toward nonalcoholic steatohepatitis or cirrhosis if unchecked. Overproduction or impaired clearance of VLDL contributes significantly to dyslipidemia associated with metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular disease risk.
