Overview
Hepatitis A virus (HAV) is a non-enveloped, single-stranded RNA virus that causes hepatitis A, an acute infectious disease of the liver. It spreads primarily via the fecal-oral route and is highly contagious. While it does not cause chronic infection, it can lead to liver inflammation and, rarely, fulminant hepatitis. Diagnosis relies on serological testing. Prevention involves vaccination and improved hygiene practices.
