Target intelligence / Profile preview
Hepatitis A virus antigens are primarily composed of highly conserved structural proteins forming an icosahedral capsid. Key immunodominant epitopes reside mainly within specific regions of VP1 and VP3 proteins. These features underpin reliable serological testing methods as well as effective vaccine design targeting all human-infecting genotypes through a single serotype.
Vaccines induce neutralizing antibodies against conserved epitopes on the HAV capsid proteins, preventing viral entry and infection. Immunoglobulin provides passive immunity through pre-formed antibodies.
