Overview

The hepatitis A virus capsid protein refers to the structural proteins that form the outer shell (capsid) of the HAV virion. The primary function of this capsid is to protect the viral genome, evade immune recognition, and facilitate entry into host cells. The HAV capsid is composed mainly of four proteins: VP1, VP2, VP3, and VP4. It interacts with the human receptor HAVCR1 for cell entry. The capsid lacks pronounced canyons or indentations typically used as receptor-binding sites in related viruses.
