HAVCR1P2 (hepatitis A virus cellular receptor 1 pseudogene 2) is a human pseudogene originating from the gene encoding hepatitis A virus cellular receptor 1 (HAVCR1). By definition, pseudogenes are nonfunctional DNA segments that resemble functional genes but are unable to produce functional protein products due to accumulated disabling mutations or lack of regulatory sequences. While some pseudogenes can have minor biological effects, such as regulatory roles through non-coding RNA, most—including HAVCR1P2—are not known to be biologically or pharmacologically active. As such, HAVCR1P2 is not a true receptor, is not implicated in disease phenotypes, and is not considered a drug target. Its annotation may sometimes lead to confusion in molecular studies or databases, particularly when searching for targets related to HAVCR1 proper, which is a functional receptor. Pseudogenes like HAVCR1P2 can complicate experimental results due to their sequence similarity to functional genes, potentially causing misidentification in analyses such as PCR or microarray studies. However, pseudogenes themselves rarely serve as therapeutic targets or direct disease biomarkers.
