Hepatitis A virus structural antigens are capsid proteins (primarily VP1, VP2, VP3, and VP4) making up the nonenveloped icosahedral shell of the Hepatitis A virus[3][4][5]. These proteins form immunodominant neutralization sites, notably involving residues of VP3 and VP1, which are recognized by the host's immune system[2]. They serve as the critical antigenic targets for vaccine design and serological diagnostics. The structure is highly conserved, resulting in only one major serotype, which allows effective immunization with a single vaccine formulation[3][4][5]. These antigens do not correspond to host cellular receptors, enzymes, or transporters, but are rather viral proteins targeted by prophylactic and therapeutic strategies against Hepatitis A[2][3][4].
