Overview
The hepatitis B virus presurface protein 1 (preS1) is a domain of the large envelope protein (L-HBsAg) essential for viral infectivity. It mediates attachment to hepatocytes via interaction with NTCP and HSPG. The N-terminal region contains the NTCP-binding site, and myristoylation is critical for receptor binding. PreS1 is a target for antiviral drugs and is also recognized by neutralizing antibodies.
