Overview
Inhibiting the release or secretion of HBsAg from infected hepatocytes is a therapeutic strategy for chronic hepatitis B. The rationale is that reducing circulating HBsAg may restore host immune responses against HBV-infected cells. Agents targeting this process act by blocking assembly or secretion pathways for sub-viral particles containing HBsAg without necessarily affecting virion production directly.
